We are part of a small, family type of church. I'm looking for ideas for Easter to help make it feel like our church is having a "refreshing" celebration. Any ideas?

Perhaps, encouraging the congregation to share things in their life that God "resurrected" them out of?

This year we are holding a sunrise service at the local football field in conjuction with the SBC Church in town (We are Pentecostal Holiness by the way). This year we do the music and preaching; then the Baptist furnish breakfast (Sausage gravy and bisquits).

Afterward we go to our own Church with singing (Secials will be Villa de la Rosa, and Up From the Grave He Arose) , teaching ( I will preach on what Jesus said right after he arose about "Go and tell Peter" relating that to the call of all who have rejected Christ), communion, etc. Afterwards we have a covered dish meal at the Church, with music by whomever wants to, and the kids have a great easter egg hunt on the grounds.

I, as Pastor, also subject myself to getting a great many confetti eggs busted on my Head.

Works for us.

Thanks
RC

We always have various member's do short skits with a theme along the lines of resurrection and each team randomly chooses audience member's to be involved in the skit. It's pretty interesting to see what transpires. Questions are asked from the random audience member such as "What do you think your reaction would have been if you were Mary the mother of Jesus and saw your son dying like that? A testimony was shared about what it was like the year she lost her only daughter in a car accident....you never know what is going to happen and it's pretty awesome.

We also Communion...a couple of special songs, we often bow before the cross at prayer time...one year we all had stones which represented our burdens that we took and lay at the foot of the cross...

I think the best thing is to pray and have the Holy Spirit lead you to what is best for your church family right now. Don't go with tradition simply for traditions sake.

Psst... RC.. it's Via Dolorosa (something like "way of pain" in either Latin or Spanish), not Villa de la Rosa (Manor of the Rose).

MODERATOR'S NOTE :: ATTENTION PLEASE

This is simply a preemptive nudge that this is NOT a thread in which to debate whether or not to celebrate Easter/Resurrection Sunday. I'm pretty sure there's a thread in Morality & Ethics for that.

Thanks!

yea that's what i get for trying to use spanish spelling on a latin word; thanks I corrected it.

And I think the spot on translation would be "Way of Grief", but that is really being picky picky picky.

It is a great and moving song.

Thanks
RC

we go to a fairly large "everyone, regardless of familial, marital or age status feels welcome" kind of church.

We used to have "sunrise services" at a local minor league baseball park's stadium...that hasn't happened in a few years. I think the wildly varied possible bad weather, and low turnout for so early may have been a factor in why we don't do that anymore.

On Good Friday, we'll have services that evening....with the Lord's supper and baptism. Each and every Sunday we have at least a few baptisms...but, since our pastor will be participating on Friday, and with it being Good Friday...I would expect at least 60+...which will include our youngest daughter (since my wife's parents will be in town to see that)

Then, we have 3 church services on Easter Sunday, instead of the usual 2.

Our adult sunday school class...is having a "family outing" with a picnic with an Easter Egg Hunt the weekend before Easter...this coming Saturday afternoon.

Since our church does have it's "Main Street Cafe", with buffet brunch, they'll be the usual breakfast and/or brunch for all who would like....great food at a very reasonable price. They do special items for their "Easter Brunch"....and, I would expect them to be overflowing...though, we typically go elsewhere after church, since it is so very crowded down on that end of church on Sundays.
