What sort of family/kid/teenager appropriate games do you have? We just won a Nintendo Wii and I haven't the slightest clue. Our children are still small, but we'll probably let the youth group use it at functions as well. What sort of clean, family-friendly games are out there?

We have a wii and we LOVE it! I love the sports games that came with it. My favorite is the bowling and golf. I also have Wii fit and it's a lot of fun and it does work you out pretty well. There are many family appropiate games that they have. All the multiplayer family games are very appropiate. After playing it a few times you will love it too!

What ages? I have a 9, 8, 5, and 3 year old. One thing they can all play is Mario Party 8. It's like a board game where all the characters move forward and sometimes play games against each other. My 3 year old could always shake the dice and make choices even if he couldn't play the games well. (Warning: there is a 'haunted house' type game board on there. Usually we just tell the boys not to play that one. It's not scary but the little helper characters are ghosts and we don't do ghosts.) He can also play some of the Wii Sports which usually come with the Wii. Bowling isn't too bad. Baseball is good. Boxing is fun. Tennis and Golf are a little harder. As a general game Mario Kart is fun. A lot of people (4) and ages can compete with each other.

We have one and what I love about it is you move around! All the games I got with it are great for all my kids. It's the sports package and some cow racing one. I also bought the Wii Fit and embrassed to say I have not even brought it out yet. I have two 10 years old girls and a 4 yr old girl and all love it.

One of the couples in my home fellowship has this and we get together occasionally and play the sports. The wife likes a cooking one.

We have a Wii and Wii Fit. We haven't bought a lot of games because we like the sports that came with it and we bought the other bundle where you get an extra controller. Those games are fun. We have a football game that isn't played very often though. We really like Carnival games and want to get Playground. There are so many family friendly games out there to pick for the Wii. One thing you can do is rent them at Blockbuster to see if your family likes the game enough to buy.

My son has a new game called Blocks. It is a game that has you trying to knock down different variations of stacked blocks - I actually found it very fun.

We've also started renting through gamefly.com and ds loves that. We have so many we really enjoy, though. Hannah Montana was a waste and I got my dad a fishing game that was really dumb. I'm not sure Guitar Hero is all that "appropriate" but dh was addicted to that for a while. He really likes Madden football and we both like Tiger Woods golf a lot! Dance Dance Revolution is fun but it's hard! We have one called Game Party that has some neat things like darts and a few other things. Carnival Games is s supposed to be really cool. We don't have that. When you first get it, you really can go for months just playing the sports games that come with it and not get bored at all!

We love our Wii! Most of the games we've played are pretty clean. Super Mario Galaxy is lots of fun- I think there are some ghosties and some of the bad guys could scare really little kids, but no real blood or gore. There's one called Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz (I think), that was all sorts of little games to play- sort of like carnival games.

You are going to love the Wii! We have Wii Sports, Wii Fit and MarioKart, plus we bought points and downloaded the original Super Mario games. Check out any of the sports games and also check out Wii Music. I haven't tried it yet but it is supposed to be a lot of fun. You can't go wrong with a Wii! Rachel, even though your kids are still young, they'll enjoy it. We strap a controller on Akeelah and she tries to play tennis!

Nintendo's main target is young kids and families. There will be some games that have more mature content, but you won't have the problems that come with Playstation and Xbox. Guitar Hero is easy once you've practiced a bit!

I'd try renting a Wii before buying one. I got one last Christmas and I'm fairly disappointed with it. The motion controls are not nearly as precise or consistent as I'd hoped they'd be, so the simpler the controls on the game and the bigger the onscreen buttons, the better. MarioKart is done very well. Worms: A Space Oddity is not (I liked earlier Worms games, but this one isn't great). Some of the stock Wii sports games are good, but the controller inconsistency is frustrating, particularly in Boxing and Golf. I have Mario Galaxy, but played it for about 5 minutes and have no interest in going further. Beyond that, if you've got young kids and want to keep everything clean, then the Wii is fine. But if you want some more mature games for yourself or for older kids, the pickings are really slim and I'd recommend going with a different console. quote:

I'm particularly concerned with the controls. I don't so much want to play golf, but I'd be interested in a good boxing game. Also, Rockstar's Table Tennis looks interesting. -Dan.

My 5 yo LOVES the Endless Ocean game. She's a future marine biologist, I think, and she loves learning about the fishes. There is an actual GAME mission, but you really can just spend hours swimming. If you reach out and "touch" the fish, it will tell you about them-- size, traits, where they're found in the ocean, what they eat, name, all that stuff. It's pretty cool. Some are easy to catch and study and others are more difficult. Now, I wish she'd finish learning to read, so I didn't have to sit there and read them all to her all the time. I'M becoming a fish expert as well!

Jennifer, Cosmic Family is an educational game, and Eleni would be old enough for it. I don't think it's necessarily a letter or number game but it's supposed to develop problem solving skills. It's gotten great reviews as an educational game.

We've had a Wii for about a year and a half. So I guess I would be an early adopter.... My kids are in their early teens. There are several sites that have game reviews. www.gamespot.com is a good resource, but is secular, and often doesn't like Wii games. Just like any other media, you should determine what is age-appropriate for your children. You can always rent the game and play it after the kids go to bed. Just to determine age appropriateness, of course. We have Wii sports, play and Fit. Play is nice because it comes with a controller, but the games are so-so. Mario strikers (soccer), Super Mario Galaxy, Karts. Super Smash Brothers is good, but is a cartoonized fighting game. The Lego titles are good: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Batman, but there is fighting in those as well. Rayman Raving Rabbits (I, II, and now III) is a good party game, but has some gross-out humor. All of the above have multi-player options. The EA sports games are supposed to be good as well: football, soccer, golf.

Our kids are teens and out of the E rated games, their favorite is Mario kart. They also have topspin3 (tennis game) and GT pro series (racing game) but don't play them as often. They have three T-rated games which are: Super Smash Brothers (favorite), metroid prime 3, and Medal of Honor Heroes 2 My son wants the NHL hockey game for Christmas, and my other son wants Mario Galaxy.

littlest pet shop was a recent addition to our collection and popular with my daughter a fan of that francise ... mario galaxy is cool cause a 2nd player can pick up a remote and help out which could allow a younger child to progress farther in the game ... super smash brothers is great for fans of nintendo licenses ...
