...a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear... (Psalm 46:1). Is this a reality in your life and your times of trouble? Do Christians become fearful when they should be still? "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth" (Psalm 46:10).

Thank you for that Ezra. Fear has been the series in our church for the past few weeks. It seems that God is really instilling in my heart to not fear and trust in Him.

Very timely post. My pastor was preaching on fear this morning. I think that my life has been changed radically by the scriptures over the years. I believe that we as Christians do become fearful at times... it's a natural emotion that was given to us by God. But we give in to it far too often. Thank you for your post and the scripture!

Do Christians become fearful when they should be still? "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth" (Psalm 46:10). Yes and yes. And that is not to say that I don't fear. I do. But as I grow closer to Jesus, the fear becomes less and less. Perfect Love casts out fear. Read I John 4:7-21 to come to a clearer understanding of fear. I understand fear to be unbelief. One who fears is not believing, trusting God as being the present help. The one who fears is not being still and knowing that He is God. The one who fears is caught up in their own circle of thoughts. And that is unbelief. And we have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. I John 4:16 When it comes right down to it, it's all about believing the love which God has for us. Living loved. Yup. That's it. And it's the opposite of unbelief. It's the opposite of fear. Thanks for this wonderful topic. Yes, fear is at the root of all unbelief, all lack of faith. I believe. Lord, help my unbelief.

Do Christians become fearful when they should be still? "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth" (Psalm 46:10). Fear, as a response to a real danger is not only healthy, but necessary for our survival. It is an emotion which sets in motion designed physical responses that enable us to act quickly. But, there is a fear that is not a response to real trouble, it is a response to imagined trouble. 1 John 4:18 (Amp) There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! For fear brings with it the thought of punishment, and [so] he who is afraid has not reached the full maturity of love [is not yet grown into love's complete perfection]. This form of fear is not a response to danger, it is a response to perceived danger. The danger is only in our minds, but our emotions do not distinguish between reality and fantasy. We imagine all kinds of dangerous scenarios, and our emotions logically respond to those thoughts as if they were real. We can exist at this level for as long as we choose to dwell in the area of what was or what may be. The past is gone and the future is God's alone. The only real danger we can experience is in the present, and God is always present and always sufficient. When we grasp the depth of God's love for us, we can rest in the truth that our past has been cleansed and our future is in His hands. This frees us to truly live...today. God's grace is sufficient for today, and that is all we need. Peace

I have been trying very hard these past few weeks to let God be my rock, and not to fear. It can be hard sometimes. But I like to remember all the things He has done for me in the past, and that gives me the confidence to trust him for the future. "Eighty and six years have I served him, and he never once wronged me; how then shall I blaspheme my King, Who hath saved me?" Those are the words of Polycarp, Bishop of Smyrna, just before his martyrdom. I hope that I can have faith that strong, if ever I should be in that situation.

Thank you all for your posts and for seeing that God Himself is our Rock, our Fortress, our Refuge, our Strength, our Hiding Place, our Shelter, and our Stronghold. Christ Himself is our Rock (1 Cor. 10:4). Memorize Nahum 1:7 and meditate on it daily: "The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that trust in Him".
