Hi if you all wouldn't mind going to the website below (gardenweb com) to see the photos I posted. I am trying to decide on a table cloth color to go with for my christmas table this year.

Which one would you use?

Thanks

I like the red best, because I think the centerpiece looks better with it.

I agree, the red makes the red berries on the centerpiece and the red on the china really pop out. It also compliments your beautiful hutch.

White was my second choice. The green just seems kind of dark and dull, not vibrant and cheery.

I think the green looks rich and elegant, natural (tree colour!) and also won't detract from the colours of the food. I find the red garish and the white too prone to stains!

White is great if you're not entertainig children, or adults like me, who spill easily. One spill and the whole table looks a mess. It also makes the plates look too blended in. You want people to clearly see where to put their food.

Red is my favorite color. Spills on the red will stand out quite a bit too, which will ruin your beautiful setting. The red makes the plates stand out too much.

As Manda so eloquenty said:

If this were a poll, I'd vote GREEN. Besides, aren't we all supposed to be "GOING GREEN?"

I vote for the green table cloth. The colors in your china pattern seem to look the best with green.

I think since you are going for Christmas-y colors, I really like the red the best. Second choice would be the white, third the green. The red is very nice, bright, and I instantly thought "oooh, Christmas-y... and pretty"

The green looked a bit dark for my tastes... but it could also be my computer screen. =)

Thank you everyone for giving me your input and Szaftoo for the compliment on the entertainment unit. I fell in love with it at first sight.

I never thought I would be having such a difficult time trying to decide on a table cloth color. I keep telling myself in the great scheme of things its the socializing with family and friends thats counts, good food too lol who cares about the cloth color. Then the decorator in me stands up and says I DO! LOL

When I first set up the tables green and white were my favorites and red last on my list but now when I look at the red it does seems kinda nice too. White is a safe color decorating wise. The green is very elegant, red just pops and....... I'm right back were I started.

My goal is to keep the traditional christmas look. The green is very elegant but does it take away from the traditional look?

The red does still hold the christmas tone but will I like it after an hour, two? It does stand out of course that tissue paper is a bright red. Maybe I will go buy a yard or two of a deeper red material. See if its still so bold.

The white is a safe color but seems to still need something to make the table sing.

The unit is really beautiful and I noticed it right away. Also, it's hard to tell, what kind of floor covering do you have? Just curious and has nothing to do with the table cloth.

I agree, your guests are coming to be with you and probably won't notice the color of the table cloth.

I think green is very traditional looking. Typically red and green are considered the main Christmas colors. Also, most Christmas trees are green.

I think the "traditional" Christmas look will be more accomplished by the *shade* of green or red. I mean, yes, green and red are Christmas-y, but many times it is the shade that makes it look more Christmas-like. You probably wouldn't use sage green afterall. =)

Personally, if I were trying to choose a table cloth color, and had plates that I wanted to coordinate with, I would take a small plate/saucer/something with me to look at the table cloths, to see what I thought went well with it. If I felt like the red went well with it, but I wasn't sure that I couldn't handle the brightness of it, I would go a touch darker... If no red were available, I might go to the greens and try to find something to coordinate.. but it's really up to you in the end.

eh, I've started rambling, sorry.

I've been trying to post since yesterday but I kept getting an error msg.

Szaftoo

The floors are a medium/dark wood. It blends nicely with the unit.

I guess what I mean by traditional is the feeling I get when I look at it, whether it feels like christmas to me. LOL I want it to have a homey feel but not country with upscale elegance but not fancy wedding, anniversary party affair.

Great idea pumpkin thanks! I will take one with the charger.

I'm going to go material shopping this weekend and give it another whirl. The other board gave me some good tips too that I will try out. So when I get new photos up I will let you all know so you can take a gander and tell me what you think.

Funny thing is I was mostly geared toward the green, then the white, with red being last but now for some reason when I see that red I think Christmas! I can see the side table with a green cloth and plaid table runner and silver servware. Maybe a plaid bow tied around each chair. I think I might be getting a picture in my head. Hopefully I will be able to find the perfect shade of red.

please post no more error message!

I like the red the best. I think it shows off the dishes and centerpiece better. The green seemed too dark and everthing got swallowed up by it.

If you can't decide, you could always go with a runner down the center of your table with both colors. My runner has both red and green with gold tassels on the ends that match my holiday china.

I like the red the least. I agree that it is garish. The white is nice but it minimizes the settings. I would go with the green.

I haven't done all new set ups yet. My nephew is in the hospital so I only got around to doing the red again but haven't posted it yet. I was actually pretty set to go with the red, I found some gorgeous rich red material but now I"m concerned about the chairs. I usually rent them either the standard white wood folding or the gold or white chivari. I'm worried the gold chairs with the gold chargers and red material might look a little on the garish side and that the white ones will just not hold up to the look of the table. Maybe if I add a red bow to the back of the white chairs.

Could I be more silly worrying about this stuff. I have to laugh at myself right now.

I'll see how things go and maybe try and get to the other two this coming weekend.

I think it is a good idea to think (I don't think you're worrying) about the "silly" stuff. Sometimes it's a necessary distraction.

After searching the stores for plaid runners, green velvet runners with gold trim, green candles and green napkins and finding zip I have given up for this year and decided to go with the red table cloth. I did find a nice satin sheen red one that I like and will be getting more of that to cover the entire table.

I did manage to get up some of the other decorations though. If anyone wants to see go here

Thanks to everyone for your great ideas and tips!

RED is the winner!

I have to ask. Did you buy some of your things from Kirklands by chance. The candle globes and centerpiece remind me of things I see at Kirklands. That centerpiece looks a lot like the one I have on my coffee table. I just love Kirklands.

Sorry no, I never even heard of Kirlands. LOL I got the centerpiece from target and the hurricanes I got from a homedecor store in the neighborhood but I saw them also at Bed Bath and Beyond. They come in redd and gold too.
