Jeepers! Totally spaced out that it was already March! anyway - here's my last post on the other thread. quote:
ORIGINAL: stampinlady quote:
We had to get on Ty and Aryn for their grades again. I've done something wrong with these two. I thought I had taught them responsibility and to take pride in their work and actually hand it in. Oh and to take the time to study for tests. How do I get them to see that this is hurting them big time? I'm meeting with Ty's counselor on Tuesday. Hopefully Brian can make it too. Garsy, are they too busy doing extra things? We got on dd about here grades and told her she would have to drop tech if she dropped below an A. She's very capable of getting straight A's, but tends to be lazy. Is Ty in classes that are too hard for him? Ds got put in advanced Biology because his reading scores were good, but we said, "No" because he's Science isn't his strong suite and unless he really liked it, we knew we'd have to push him. He's done just fine in freshman level Bio. As far as Aryn goes - I don't think so. She isn't involved in any church youth groups and her only extra is her writers group that meets every two weeks. Aryn is however very lazy. She seems not to care. During the fall - when Ty's grades are actually better, he is busier than he is now. Right now Ty isn't doing all that much. He attends church with his girlfriend and her family on Saturday nights and she comes her on Fridays after school. He does have a serious problem with spending WAY to much time on the phone. Ty's worst two classes are his AP US history and Honors English classes which were supposed to be a block class - ONE two period class with two teachers - and English teacher and a history teacher. But due to numbers they were unable to do the class that way this year and had we known before school started we would have pulled him from the history. He struggles with history anyway but he responds well when literature he is reading coincides with what they are studying in history. Well things didn't work out that way for some reason. He's doing better - just struggling to bring them up from a rough start this quarter. We'll get through somehow. Blessings, Garsy

Happy March!!!!!! I am in MN and today we went to the mall. It wasn't that impressive. I didn't get through much of it, but it was just a big mall divided up into little areas. But then again, I am not one who loves to shop. The kids liked the rides, but I thought the amusement park was a mess. It didn't have any clear pathways from one ride to another, and half the rides were closed. I have had more fun taking the kids swimming and since we forgot to grab games, I found a walmart and bought some for us to play. I just want a relaxing couple of days before I have to start all over again. I need this.

The best time to go to the Mall is EARLY in the morning. There are no crowds - LEGO land is empty and the Cinnabon store has fresh rolls!!! Other than that I rarely went to the mall when we lived there. Where are you staying? Which of the burbs? Now for our news!!! Brian was offered the new job at about 4:45 this afternoon!!!!!!! Pending drug tests and a physical he'll start on Tuesday the 23rd. He will most likely be on the night shift which means he'll work from 6PM to 6 AM since they work 12 hour shifts. It's a really confusing schedule but he essentially works every other weekend and then gets a 3 day weekend every couple of weeks. Right now it really doesn't matter to me what the hours are. He'll be working full time with overtime from time to time!! Brian was 8 weeks away from being done with unemployment too. We have a neighbor that is actually getting quite desperate. He only has til June to find a job. Then his unemployment will be done, because he didn't fit into any of the categories that qualified for extensions because instead of wasting his unemployment he chose to go back to school full time. Oh and Ty managed a B+ on a history test that he thought was going to be tomorrow, but upon going into see the teacher about something else he saw that the teacher was sitting out tests for his first period class! He had all his study cards done, and was blessed with a quiz in algebra today that allowed him some free time in that class to study for the history test. He gets home and immediately asks me to check to see if the test grades were up and sure enough they were and he managed a B+! However - now he is being belligerent with his father and has managed to lose himself all phone privileges for the night, and likely longer if he keeps it up. Blessings, Garsy

I hope Ty can get a grip before he loses more. It's nice he got a good grade on the test. And CONGRATULATIONS BRIAN! Garsy, what a relief for your family :) Tracy, I've never been to MoA, but it doesn't seem like my kind of place. I'm not a big shopper. How's it going, heremainsfaithful? Happy March to you, too!

Yay for Brian! Tracy- I went to MoA once, about 6 months after it opened. We spent five hours just in the Peanuts area. I wouldn't be able to handle it now.

Wouldn't you think that they should be the ones calling back? I would think so since she is the one who caused you some alarm. She started it, she should have followed though. But a lot of people just don't care enough to do so. Linz played the Cat in the Hat again this year. I guess it's Dr Seuss's birthday.

yes. It is "Dr. Seuss Day" here. last night our 1st and 2nd grades did some stuff from Seussical the Musical for PTA. I got out the old trusty cat in the hat costume - figured I would wear it one last time. It was fun. Congratulations Garsy on the job. Is it bad that because of another thread on here I giggled when you mentioned the drug test. Tee hee

How fun for Linz! R's school had a cat in the hat come visit today, but I don't know who it was. The kids could wear black, and they made hats. The teachers painted their noses and put whiskers on the kids' faces if they wanted them to. I'm glad to hear about Brian's job, Garsy, what a relief! Deb, yes, they should have called you back. One time the school called because N wasn't there, supposedly. I told them they he should be there and they double checked while I stayed on the line. Dee

Our kindergarteners were celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday today. Too cute!! All the hats and painted cat faces and all! I think the teachers enjoy this as much as the kids do!! The 5th graders even got in the act and were invited down to read to the kindergarteners. Of course this had to be done between testing times, but it was done. Ethan said they had a great time! Linz is adorable as The Cat! We had that meeting with Ty's counselor today. He has got a tremendously heavy load next year, but pending passing of his AP history class, he won't have to take another AP course. He is sitting .343 points below the needed B average. He HAS to get this up if he wants his DL! His teacher called him out on his tendency toward laziness and I think it hit home. Ty is working on a neat project right now for Honor's English! They are doing their poetry unit right now and writing illustrated sonnets. The one he wrote is about a violinist and we have the perfect picture for it! A picture of his great great great grandfather's violin, that my father has inherited. Oh and the phone ban is still in place. One of Ty's friends came by today. Apparently he is trying to get in some community service hours, required for graduation in by doing some work for one of the local churches. He called from here, but from what I over heard - the way he spoke to them isn't going to get him a response. He was borderline rude! Our regional art festival is coming up on the 13th and 14th! It snuck up on us this year! I have a lot of work to do to get things ready for the Art teacher to take down to the convention center a week from Friday!!!! I think I may be at school this Friday just to get a head start on getting things ready to go! we've got a LOT of work to do! Blessings, Garsy

Even the ride area was not like I thought it would be. We were going to go to St. Paul today, but the kids got sucked into the movie "Marley and Me" and decided to hang out here for our last day. That takes a load off of me because I can finally relax. quote:

I know this is not going to be a vacation destination in the future. I would love to see the rest of the state, but the mall was just a mall. Nothing special though. I remember people telling me that you need to stay a week just to get through the mall. I suppose that is if you go into every store and buy something.

How wonderful Garsy! And Linz looks darling...so much expression. I can see why they loved her. We went to MoA over Valentine's Day (not on purpose...dh wanted to go to the Minne Maker's Fair and it was consolation for the boys having to ride in the car that long). It was sort of fun. The aquarium is really fun. The Lego store is okay (the boys like it anyway). By the time we eat and play arcade games we're ready to go. We're not big shoppers either. Everyone's sick this week. Finally got everyone (mostly) better and need to get Luke back on track.

We used to live just 15 minutes from the MoA. When Ty was little we'd go almost every Tuesday morning early - right when the doors opened for walkers and we'd walk the mall. We'd start at the top and by the time we'd get to the bottom, the Cinnabon store would be open and I'd eat back all the calories I just walked off! Then we'd go to LEGO land for a little bit and then go home before things got to busy. Ran in to, literally, one of Prince's body guards one day coming out of Cinnabon. Yes Prince was there but the body guards were serious about their positions. At least they were polite enough to let a lady out with her stroller and kid before they swept in, got their goods and left quickly! Today is laundry. I detest laundry day. Blessings, Garsy

Kath...very cute Cat in the Hat!!! MOA...when my youngest was in elementary school, he was led to think that we were going to the MOA for vacation (just enough internet searches to let him get the idea). We left for vacation in the middle of the night so he slept the long journey. When he awoke, he nearly went into shock when it finally dawned on him that we were in Florida and headed to Disney World! That was quite an expression on a child's face!! I'm still impressed that his siblings didn't accidently spill the secret!
