We are using lapbooking and unit studies for social studies, Cornerstone for Math and Science and we also do Art and Music once a week.

Nice to meet all of you!

Hello I'm Mouse5. I'm the mother of three ornery but loveable kids ages 8,6,4. This is my second official year of schooling the kids though I have worked with them since they were born. Never really planned on schooling them myself even with my husbands insistence until I went to enroll my oldest into kindergarten. That was when I felt God telling me not to complete the enrollment and to school them at home. So far I've been blessed by the experience even through the trials and struggles.
All three of my kids are constantly trying to find ways to get out of book work. It's quite humorous to watch and even more humorous when they find out they still have to do their book work.
I can't think of anything else to put here so I'll end with a nice to meet everyone and I look forward to being a part of the community.

Hello everyone,
This is my first year to homeschool my son. I was one of those that had no interest in homeschooling when I was called to do this last year. We are using the abeka curriculum. It has gone very well and we are so blessed. We felt especially blessed during the holidays...not as much rush and stress. What a blessing.
May the Lord be with each of you.

Hi Everyone,
I am a Homeschooling mom to 3 children. We are in our 3rd year of homeschooling. I feel blessed to have found this goup for support and encouragement. The topics I have read so far are right on target, and have already helped make this journey all the better.

I'm Kara, mom of 4.5 children (baby due in August) ... 7g,5b,2b,1b and wife of Scott.

This year we have been using A Beka, but that isn't working for our 5yo, and our 7yo is getting bored as well. We will be transitioning to unit studies and lapbooks next year (this was more of a 'getting our feet wet' year) I really like the flexibility of HS -- I can't imagine life with the rigidity of 'real school', even though dh and I were there our whole childhood!

Take care!
Kara

God's Blessings to you and yours

Hello I just found this group and I am excited by what I have read so far. My soul is so thirsty for a group of "like minded" people who homeschool for the Glory of God!

We didn't start homeschooling for this purpose, but now God's glory is our only purpose.

When my husband suggested homeschooling 10 years ago, my reaction was one of horror--"Only Weird fanatical people do that!!" Well guess what-- I am now one of those fanatical people!!

I have 5 wonderful (well most of the time) children--BW is 16, BM is 14, MB is 10, MK is 9 and Kolle is 5. {2 boys & 3 girls} We are also hoping to adopt. I HS and I do day care for 4 preschoolers.

Well enough about me I just wanted to introduce myself.

Blessings Venicia D. aka dottedmom

Hi! I've been hsing for about six years, and am so glad to find crazy people like me who homeschool for Christ, but also to help them excel in what He's given them. I have two great kids (12 and 10) who have learned to do a lot on their own, while I fumble around trying to find new and cool stuff for them to dig into. I hope this forum will open up even more ideas! I'm looking forward to it!

Hi, I'm Stella and I homeschool my 12yo dd who is in 6th grade. We decided before we even had her that we would homeschool our children. It has proven to be the most challenging yet enjoyable time. I look forward to learning new things and sharing with all of you.

Hi --

New to this site -- we have homeschooled for 4 years now. We have 9yob, 7yob, 5yog in grades 3, 2, and K respectively. Tried cyber schools, eclectic traditional homeschool and next year, a unit study curriculum in a "box". Anyone out there use My Father's World?? Good to be here....

We tried MFW K (better than what we had before, but not quite what we needed so we will be using something else for 1st grade, although there are parts I loved). Are you using MFW?

Hello everyone! I am a grandmother who has now successfully completed our first year of at home schooling, in Hallowed Halls High School! My Girls did pretty well, considering the circumstances under which they were beginning their new school adventure. Math is our worst problem - nightmare! Do you have any suggestions how I can help them catch up on math when I am really NO help? We are doing Switched On Schoolhouse 2007, and liked it a lot. The math, though doesn't thoroughly explain things, and when they are already lost, it is no help at all. We have tried looking up that particular type of math on Internet and found some helpful explanations there. If I don't come up with some plan for this year, I may have to resort to a tutor. So come on, and fire away - I await your expertise!

Hello,
My name is Kari (rhymes with sorry) I am just starting with hs my ds11, hoping with a good year to have ds8 home next year. I also have a dd21 who is a sr. in college (she asks if she can BE a kindergarten teacher and hs her own kids... ) I would have liked to hs her but... things did not work out that way. another dsd17 who is a sr. in PS high school, she has no interest in HS, she likes the energy of all the other kids, needs the sports etc etc.
I have been married to the best man in the whole world for 12 years!! (although he has some reservations on the hs front)
I am an RN in Mat/Child at night... four nights on then 10 off. Can't beat that schedule.
(plus as I am finishing my bachelors online (Liberty), that makes me hs too!!)

I am Mary Jane and we have 5 children, have been homeschooling for about 14 or so years. Our oldest Benjamin has just signed up with the National Guard and ROTC and will be going to St John's Univerity near St Cloud, MN this fall. (We live in MN, moving here from CO 4 years ago) He is pursuing Elementary Education. He and his sister, Amanda who is 17 1/2, just completed PSEO (taking college courses at taxpayers expense for high school and college credit) at Crown University near us. their first experience of "classes" and both well prepared though we are more "unschoolers" than anything else. I want my kids to fall in love with life and learning and be strong in the skills of how to learn. I don't care as much what they are learning about--nature studies being one of our favorites, studying history by learning about real people of history....am I rambling????

Bonnie is 13, Natalie is 10 1/2, and Noah is 8 1/2. He is outside in the garage enjoying fresh baked peanut butter cookies (made this morning by Bonnie)and cold, raw milk with a couple buddies as they take a break from whatever wood working project they are absorbed in.

I am excited about participating, I heard about you all from HSLDA. I am not very skilled at dealing with a multitude of posts so am wondering if I will be overwhelmed......but here's my best shot. Joy to you all today, I am amazed of late that Jesus calls us "friend". ~Mary Jane

ps I will go over (over like where? ok, I am not a computer savy woman...)and look for how to sign up for the newsletter....if I cannot find the link I will ask for help.

Hi,

We've been educating our 4 children at home since they were born and our oldest is 18 years old (almost 19). Oh my that's quite a few years it seems! Most of their formal education has been done using Sonlight Curriculum as the spine. We love it for it's international perspective and ease of tailoring to the child.

I live in a house full of artists. Hubby of 25 years now is a college prof in communication and a video production artist. My eldest daughter teaches and dances classical ballet. My eldest son plays a mean trap set-jazz, blues and Christian worship. My youngest daughter plays and is training in classical piano. My youngest son draws cars in detail and seems to have a photographic memory. I have a background in interior design.

I enjoy cooking, exercise, encouraging others, reading, knitting, crocheting and scrapbooking.

..... Hi.

I'm Rachel, and I'm a new homeschooler.

Seriously. I am!

My girls are in the 7th and 8th grade....

This is our first time homeschooling... and in about a month... I will have help from mom.

So far... I've been looking at sites and have research to help me figure out what the state of TX requires...

Mom is a long-time (and retired) school teacher/administrator... who is dying to help with the curriculum and teaching....

I think we will make a good team...

I was very surprised to find sites for single parents who homeschool.... incredible!!

Hello. My name's Mike and my wife, Julie, and I have been homeschooling our five children full time now for about six years.

We decided to homeschool for a couple of reasons.

The first is that we just didn't feel that government schools are doing a very good job (and I say this having been a teacher at the high school level).

The second is that the schools in our area did not offer some of the subjects we feel are so important, such as theology, economics, Latin, philosophy, and rhetoric.

The third was practical. We live so far out in the country that, if we were to send them to government school, half their day would just be spent on the bus going to and from school.

And, of course, there are all of the issues such as peer pressure, immorality, violence, etc.

It's the best decision we ever made.

Our two oldest children are fifteen and fourteen and are already taking classes on campus at a local community college and our third child has already tested out of his first year of college math requirements.

Our two youngest are far ahead of their government school counterparts.

Hi I'm Julie and homeschool our 4 year old (5 next month) for Pre-K.
We are using the Abeka K4 curriculum but we make every day a learning experience, whether we use the curriculum or not.

My husband was raised by 2 teachers and was against homeschooling when we met.
Praise God that his heart has changed. I prayed for him to accept the idea and he did, and then some! I am so happy about this!!!

My 2 older children (from a previous marriage) are in public school. I briefly hs'd the oldest (he's 16 now) when he was 11. Our youngest will be one next week and our plan is to home school her as well.
