I don't know that it's the norm, but from my experience, it seems that the gals in junior high that had the worst breakouts are now pimple free. I tell my niece to be patient w/ it because when she's my age she won't have to put up w/ the big Zilches like I have every month. kd

Me three! I carry supplies with me all the time now. For the last several weeks I've had cramping and some spotting, but nothing more. I keep thinking it's finally starting, and then it stops again.

I am curious, what kind of testing do most gynecologists do to determine menopause? Or do most do nothing & just wait till the next annual visit & call it as they see it? kd

Oh, I *crave* liver when Aunt Flo is in town. Must be the iron. I floured it, browned it and made gravy with the rest of the flour. I soaked it in milk, first--not real sure why, but I thought I had heard somewhere to do that. Used red onions. I thought it was kinda gristly, but Himself said it was a step up frpm his mother's I think I'll stick to cooking chicken livers from now on--I know haw to do that, and they always come out good. I'll get beef liver in restaurants. Nana, I don't remember ever hating it, but my mother never cooked it because it was messy. Tomorrow I will take old Aunt Flo to the grocery store and buy her some Halloween candy. That oughta shut her up for a while, anyway.

Best liver IMO is lambs liver. Ox (beef) liver and pig liver can be a bit tough and also strong. Do y'all not cook your liver with bacon like we do (traditionally) in the UK? Re menopause, my periods are regular every month for the first time in my life (have been now for 2 years) but only lasting 2 days instead of 6 (was down to 4 days last year). I also don't get the bloating now beforehand which is good. No other noticeable symptoms for now.

I'm still in what appears to be eternal perimenopause. I have decided I will not to go on HRT. The negatives outweigh the positives for me. For hot flashes and the chills that can come before or after them, I wear layers. In the summer I slept with a big freezer pack some nights. I had been taking a calcium supplement, but started to get salivary stones and other issues that I thought might have been related to too much calcium. I take a multivitamin, extra vitamin D and magnesium. I also make sure I get at least 3 dairy servings/day. Another thing I'm doing for my bones is exercise and strength training. Exercise helps with some of the other menopause symptoms too. The big problem for me is mood swings. They are related to my cycle though. They have just gotten much worse with perimenopause. Not sure if that will affect you. If it does, because you have so much on your plate right now, I'd encourage you to at least look into medication to help even them out. I've come close to seeing about starting on something, but since the moods come and go, I've been able to deal with it by exercising and taking valerian root.

In the summer I slept with a big freezer pack some nights. For you, it's probably best to deal with the symptoms without HRT, from what I've read and been told. My doctor said I will need to be on HRT until I am at an age where I would have gone into menopause naturally. So that makes sense to me that I would need it and most of you wouldn't. quote:

But I guess we'll deal with things as they come...and I will go to my GYN for meds instead of my primary care doctor, if I can help it. quote:
It's pregnancy personified! Hang on for the ride of your life! Menopause is? Or perimenopause? Because I'll be skipping peri, according to my doctor.

If you're skipping peri, maybe you'll skip the mood swings too. I hope so.
