I knew I would get the right answer here! LOL
So does this mean I have to start over now?
It's been since Christmas since I had one and thought I was on a roll, now I have to start at zero over a SPOT???
THAT is totally not right!

I don't know how it's supposed to count, but I only had a tiny bit of spotting the first month or two of last year, then nothing for the rest of the year. This January everything started up again and now I've had two regular cycles. If the spotting didn't count, I would have gone over a year with no period only to have everything start all over. I may just be weird, though.

Menopause is the one day after 12 months of no flow. Sure is A LOT of trouble for a 24 hour period. Pun intended...

I know that's how it's supposed to work, but I went over 12 months only to have it start up again. That is unless you count spotting. I'm talking very tiny spotting, too. It didn't even show up on my undies, only saw it when I wiped. Sorry if that's TMI. I don't know how else to describe how little there was. I have Polycystic ovarian syndrome, so maybe menopause, like everything else with my reproductive system, was affected by that.

Do any other premenopausal ladies feel like they're going insane?

Not kidding, ya'll.... my personality has done a 180 in the last few months. I try really hard to stay on an even keel, but I just feel so angry all the time now. Everything irritates me. I'm on the verge of tears every moment of every day now. I'm horribly forgetful these days, too.

I'm 44. I've been in premenopause for about 6 years now. Irregular cycle, but no night sweats or hot flashes (I had one about 3 years ago, but no more since). I can deal with the physical symptoms, it's the emotional ones that are driving me nuts.

Yes, I've alternated between feeling like I was going insane and feeling like I had early onset Alzheimer's.

The blessing in this is realizing that something is going wrong. Many don't realize this is happening & by post, they don't have a clue. My mother is very much like this. In the early years of pre, she would see bugs all over the place. All we did was laugh at her because we didn't know any better. By the time she was post, she was in the complete throws of a mental disorder & still does not believe there is a problem. We can't get her into treatment.

As for me, I always wanted to make sure I got through this okay. I had a mild breakdown a few years back (I'm 48 now) & I've been on paxil every since. Makes my life so much better. Occasionally, I find myself thinking I see bugs or something & realize it's my mind playing games.

No one has to be ashamed of seeking treatment during this time of life. The body is going through some mighty different changes & we get chemically imbalanced. For your sake & for your family, it's good to look into some additional help so that this time in life will go much more smoothly. Hang in there, SecretGarden, you'll be fine. k

I always like the episode of The Walton's where the mother started going through menopause. She said she felt like her hands didn't belong to her and would do what she wanted. She also said that she felt like she was going cray This episode help me a lot. It made me feel like I wasn't the only one. Yes wemem can have emotional breakdown when going through memopause. It is very rare. Women mst be without a peroid for a full year to be considered post menopausal. If there is any spotting that means there are still enough harmone to allow her to get pregnant.

Oh great.

I am getting so forgetful about things that it's almost scary.
A few months ago I loaned my niece an old cell phone to use till she could get hers replaced. The other night I mentioned to my husband that I wondered when she was going to bring it back. He told me that she already had, and that I had put it away. I was still arguing with him about it when he brought it to me.
Wow, wonder what else has happened that I don't remember?

((Kim)) I bought a brain age game that's supposed to help you keep your mind active.......then it got lost and I blamed my son. I just found it today when I went to put something away in a "safe place". I don't remember putting it there, but I'm sure I must have. Sort of ironic, isn't it?

The phone that I had put away was a different phone but looks just like the other one!

I think ya'll will enjoy this.

The Restaurant

A group of 40 year old girlfriends discussed where they should meet for
dinner. Finally it was agreed upon that they should meet at the Ocean View
restaurant because the waiters there had tight pants and nice buns.

10 years later at 50 years of age, the group once again discussed where
they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at
the Ocean View restaurant because the food there was very good and the
wine selection was good also.

10 years later at 60 years of age, the group once again discussed where
they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should meet at
the Ocean View restaurant because they could eat there in peace and quiet
and the restaurant had a beautiful view of the ocean.

10 years later, at 70 years of age, the group once again discussed where
they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should
meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the restaurant was wheel chair
accessible and they even had an elevator.

10 years later, at 80 years of age, the group once again discussed where
they should meet for dinner. Finally it was agreed that they should
meet at the Ocean View restaurant because they had never been there
before.

I started HRT a month ago. I am on the generic for Activella. Today I started my period again, after not having one since last July 2009. I guess this means it will be another year before I can hope to be in menopause. I guess it counts if the HRT causes this to start. I am also having problems with painful breasts. As anyone experienced these problems with this type HRT and should I be worried. I am just so discouraged with all this. I thought the HRT would help with my anxiety problems, which it hasn't and now I am having more problems. Lately it just seeps to go from bad to worse for me with this.

Welcome to the thread and to Crosswalk :)

I'm having a really hard time bouncing back from my hyster, mostly due to the abx I was on in hospital. I was accidentally given a dose or two more than I should have received (via IV) and my body responded in its usual fashion ... I developed a yeast infection within the first week. Because everything was so raw and new, it couldn't be treated effectively, so it caused a secondary infection. I am now on another course of abx to get rid of that infection, which will inevitably lead to another yeast infection. It's a vicious cycle, and one that I can't easily stop. Ugh.

I'm going away from early Sunday morning until late Tuesday night with my hubby. We are going to a huge restaurant show. I do *not* want to feel this horrible while we are gone. No way, no how! I've quadrupled the amount of acidophilus I'm taking, in hopes that I can ward off the rebound YI before it starts.

kd - I love that story! I'll have to try to remember it. That'd make a great e-mail to send out.

((((Vonda)))) Welcome!

((((Kara)))) sorry things aren't going well for you. Whenever I'm on abx, I eat yogurt and that pretty much eliminates any yeast infections for me.

Just to check: are you spacing out your abx doses and your acidophilus? (since if you take them too close together, the acidophilus gets cancelled out)
