Dave--you ENJOY running on the dreadmill?!?!?! In the five years that I've been running, I've run on the dreadmill ONCE. Never, ever again!!! I was about ready to bash my brains in due to boredom!

Ds1 and I went for a ride today. It was cold and windy with snow flurries. We were warm enough, the wind just made it miserable! 52miles.

For the longest time I hated running just because I got so bored with it. Ten minutes would seem like a lifetime. But once I started going to the gym and using the treadmill, I started to enjoy it. Now I can run outside and "get in the zone" to enjoy it.

Never felt healthier :)

I do the treadmill at the Y for 2 reasons. It is easier on my legs/feet, I can watch tv with earplugs, and don't have to be concerned with how to dress weather-wise. That was three, huh?

I am still waiting for when I will like it but I can't wait to get off the stupid thing. However, I am hitting 30 minutes and gradually adjusting my speed upward each time. I keep telling myself that the walking and extended running is a short amount of time to pay for the benefits that I am seeing.

If I am not challenging myself, then I will get bored.

I agree with the treadmill.. it's not that bad. I've also got bored outside.

There are some people that are pretty speedy on those things. (not me)

I've never run on a treadmill... I enjoy the variety that the outdoors brings - different routes, obstacles, different weather, etc.

I am also anti-treadmill.

Can you guys believe I haven't had a run since last Monday??? A combination of headaches, 40mph wind and family in town has derailed all my attempts. Tomorrow should be a good day for a tempo run, though. At least through the end of the year I'm making Monday my tempo run day. (I should definitely have fresh legs!)

We had some pretty bad winds this week, too...(both warm and cold winds) I ran a couple of times this week... I think I probably need to get another workout in each week, but I'm not sure when that is going to happen.

I am drinking a liter of water so I can go to the gym. :)

I am having issuses with my 2 min wind sprint, so I am going to do 1 min and work my way up again. That way I am doing the 40 min straight running.

I also have a theory about my back problems. I have been wearing flip flops all summer because work let me. I have not been changing my shoes up. Today I put a different kind of shoe on with a heel, and I am not having any issues. I wonder if it is the flip flops?????? I buy expensive flip flops, with an arch, but I think maybe it is the flat shoe? Could be.

Well I am off to run!

Flip flops bother a lot of folks so it wouldn't surprise me. I know if I'm on my feet a lot, flip flips wouldn't do it for me!

Today was my day off - which is good because I stayed up too late last night working on some choir stuff...

The treadmill is simply a tool. I am running on it 7 days a week. I tried running on asphalt a couple of days in a row and paid for it. I am pro-health and whatever it takes to get there.

My heart rate is up for an extended period of time and the treadmill is the tool that made it happen... along with dogged determination because I always wanted to stop 10 mins into the thing.

I love the outdoors but the elements do not love me. I pay good money to be a member of the YMCA and it delivers so I am definitely taking advantage of it and expect this to all pay dividends.

However, I would rather be riding a road bike but don't have one and don't have the money to get a good one... and that is several hundred bucks or more.

I agree, running outside is hard for me. But I am going to try it slowly, as I want to do some 5K's. I think it will be great! I have a route that is 1.2 miles so if I do it 3 times running, that should be a 5 k right?

One cool tool ( ) is www.mapmyrun.com. You can track your workouts and map your runs - and it will give you distances. I love it! Especially since my GPS watch broke (apparently when you get in a bike wreck and slam into concrete, monitor doesn't like that... ). I have quite a few routes saved so I have variety in my runs and different distances. If I want to do a 3 mile run, I can choose from several routes all around my house.

I just started using mapmyrun, but I've been using Google maps for the same purpose. I have routes of varying distances through my neighborhood and the two adjacent neighborhoods, so I just pick one before I leave the house.

I managed a short run last night, but I was plagued with a headache. My husband also has had a headache and everyone I work with. Isn't that weird?

reach--could be the flip flops. I was dealing with a calf strain and the PT told me to ditch the flip flops. YOu have to tighten your toes to hold the flip flop on your foot. That tightens all sorts of leg muscles, too.

I've had plantar faciitis for a good year now. We've done massage and accupucture with no relief. So I stuck with anti-inflamatories. Within the past few weeks, it's dawned on me. I had another foot injury so I started using an ankle brace. Hmm... with my arch supported, the PF got better... Then I started wearing retired running shoes. Um hum... it was almost gone. Seems that my shoes weren't providing enough support, going barefoot was the worst. So I wear the ankle brace if I'm not wearing running shoes.

I went for a run this morning. 25* with a dusting of snow. 6.24m in 59:12 for a 9:29pace. I'm not sure where my speed has been hiding. I suppose I should just get out there and enjoy running.

I am on my way to see Chiro, so I will get some tips from him too.

His-chosen - don't you know everything runs slow when it is below freezing?!? Wow! My hats off to you!

I'd rather run in the cold over the heat. However, I think the perfect run is in the upper 50s.

This morning I only ran 1 mile. I slept terrible last night and it took everything I had to drag myself out of bed this morning...

I think the perfect run is in 45-55 degree weather. Winds 10-15.

My head still hurts.

I hate wind! Yikes!

I went to the Chiro today and he fixed my back issue! Yeah! I have trigger points in my hip flexor. He said it came from sitting too much! Thanks!

I never heard of that reach but then I don't go to chiropractors.

I took today off, will run tomorrow. Maybe try to do some push ups tonight.

It's so cold

I hate wind too... Unless it's at my back... Although it never seems to work out that way...

My coldest ever run was 5F. Yes, that was a little insane... Although, I did get myself a nice ski mask after that so I'm ready for this winter.

I have a face mask to wear in really cold weather but I usually take it off. I feel like I can't breathe! I started at least one run when it was below zero. That winter was very cold and many days I was in the "more miles than degrees" club.

I'm still trying to relearn how to dress fro these colder temps. This afternoon I did a ride and was over dressed. Again. I was overdressed for my run this morning, too.

The mask I have has a cutout for your nose & mouth. If my nose or mouth are covered, my glasses steam up and I can't see...
