I am so glad that everything went well and am praying you recover quickly and completely.

(I forgot to post here before your surgery, but I did remember to pray .)

I'm home. Tired and sore, but doing well.

Will answer questions later.

Sarah, yes, it hurts to laugh. Or cough. Or hiccup. And I have done all of those. As for keeping the popcorn out of my bed...I came home to find Levi had smooshed poptart into my sheet.

Rebekah, it was a combination of laproscopic and vaginal. I'm not sure what exactly is done, but it works.

Doc said the endometriosis was horrific on the uterus and remaining ovary and tube, but had not spread to other things. The only adhesions were to my scar from my 2004 surgery, which he expected. The surgery took over two hours, and he is pretty sure he got it all.

When I got out of surgery, one of the first things I heard was a nurse telling the recovery nurse, "That was the worst endometriosis I have ever seen." God knew I needed to hear that. I know we made the right decision.

Took my first hormones (estrogen only) today...Estrace 2 mg.

sorry if you already answered this, but how long will you have to take that (probably for life, right?), and what else will you have to take in the future/or is that all?

I'll likely take that or something like it until closer to an age when I would normally have gone through menopause...45-50, I would guess. It's when people take HRT after that time that it causes more problems than it helps.

My brother and my likeabrother (my mom babysat him and his mom died when he was real little, so he kind of grew up as my brother too) have been here since last night to help Brian with the kids. They did my dishes and heated up dinner that someone from church brought. They're staying tonight too.

I really feel lazy already. I will behave though, I promise.

The little kids are driving me a little crazy, wanting to jump all over me. When I lay down, I put a pillow in front of my tummy so they don't bump it.

ETA...Esther did take one bottle of formula while I was in surgery. She was not happy about it, but she did take it. I nursed her as soon as I was back in my room and all the staff was wonderful about letting me do that. I had to be in an OB room instead of across the hall because all the regular beds were full. I didn't mind though.

Funny in the recovery room...when I first woke up, I felt my belly and asked if it had been laproscopic. The nurse told me that it had been. Then I asked her where my baby was. She got this look of panic on her face...she thought I thought I had just had a baby! Another nurse quickly informed her that I DO have a tiny baby that I was probably looking for. It was pretty funny...

LOL!

Yes, pillow-on-the-belly is good. I lived with a pillow on my belly for the first 10 days or so after my c-section with Isabel, since I had a climbing, 22-month-old Isaac that seemed to be all elbows and knees all the sudden.

Donna, glad to hear that you are home and resting. Lock Levi out if you need to, and do continue to give yourself the time to rest.

Ok, this is a dumb question, but I don't understand how they could do a hysterectomy laproscopically.
they go up through the vagina....it heals much quicker is is less traumatic to the body over all. They can also remove the ovaries that way. Since they have to sew the vaginal area closed at the top anyway following the surgery...it helps lower the number of cuts, etc.

My sister had it done this way about 10 years ago for a prolapsed uterus.

It still hurts though. Pretty badly at times. My belly button hurts the most. I actually don't feel the other two abdominal incisions, just a general soreness in my whole belly. My hoohoo is sore, but not nearly as bad as I anticipated. Not anywhere near as tender as after having a baby. One thing that surprised me is my hips and back hurt badly. The nurse said that is normal because I was probably spread eagle the whole two hours of surgery. I'm so glad I was unconscious. LOL

I'm trying really hard not to take the vicodin, except at night time because I can take it after Esther goes to sleep and know she's not really getting any of it. Ibuprofen 800 mg is enough to take the edge off at least. Honestly, even all the pain is not much worse than the awful periods I have had with the endometriosis. I'm sure I'll feel a lot better in a week or so.

Funny...my body doesn't feel like anything is missing. I don't feel any different as a person. I just feel like me. I don't know why, but I expected something different than that. I think I expected to have a hard time with it immediately, but I really think the waiting was harder than now. Emotionally, I am okay. I've been a little needy of Brian since having Esther anyway, so nothing different there other than he's afraid he'll hurt me if he puts his arm around me. I'm glad he's home right now and able to go through this every step of the way with me. I think I'd have a much harder time of everything if he was hardly ever home like he used to be.

Anyway...I mostly share all that for two purposes...to let you all know that I am okay and to hopefully help anyone else who will go through this in the future.

I'd not recommend this as a weight loss program. I doubt I lost any weight actually, since they fill you full of fluids for surgery. I'm still peeing every couple hours and I am NOT drinking that much, so I know it's IV fluids still working their way out.

They had me awake for a long time in the OR. I don't remember ever being awake in the OR. I think they usually put me out in the recovery area. Not sure why they didn't this time, but I moved to the table myself and was awake while they put the sticky heart monitor things on me. I did ask the anesthesia guy what that loud buzzing sound was and he told me only I could hear it and it was the medicine he gave me in the IV. That made me happy because I'd hate for them to be operating with that horrid buzzing in the background. Then I went to sleep...

I also didn't have a hard time waking up from anesthesia this time, as I have in the past. I think because they used the shortest acting stuff they could because of Esther.

I lost a ton of weight when I had my hysterctomy.

Well, not a ton . . . but it was up in the mid-to-high double-digits.

But it was also all weight from tumors, organs and other stuff they removed.

Good Afternoon Princess Donna! Very good to see Her Royalness.

I lost quite a bit in my 2004 surgery, SharMar. I had a huge tumor on my ovary that time. This time there had not been time for the things to start growing again, which is why we had to do it now instead of waiting. Doc did say the remaining ovary was FULL of endometriosis and he did not know how it functioned enough to give us our last two kiddos. But I know.

The steri-strips came off today. I think I'm going to have to put bandaids on the two side ones because they hurt when my pants rub on them. I'm also feeling the vaginal stitches today. At least I think that's what it is. Yuck! Still not doing much, but it doesn't hurt to stand up or sit down anymore.

Um...still jumpy? LOL I show them my belly frequently because if they don't see the boo-boos, they forget easily.

I've got people helping while Noah is at school through the end of this week at least.
