Some of us don't follow this kind of stuff so closely. This is the first I've heard that all of the original cast will be gone. Sounds like they're setting up for a spinoff. Can you say borrrrrring? I knew you could.

Same here. Like I said, I haven't watched for several seasons now, so I have no idea what's going to happen. That's why I like the speculation.

With rare exceptions, spinoffs never work. For every "Frasier" there's an "After M*A*S*H." After all these seasons of hard-hitting drama, I don't see what they could spinoff to.

Who was that head doctor from the early days? The one who always said exactly what he thought and ticked everybody off? I wouldn't mind seeing him again, either. He may have been rude but he made me laugh.
If you're talking about Romano - If memory serves, he was killed off a while back - helicopter fell on top of him - I'm thinking it'd be hard to bring him back.

That brings to mind another "star"....William H. Macy...who played Dr. Morganstern early in the show......(hasn't been on the show since 1998).....
just looked on IMDB.com, and wow....that guy is BUSY.....7 upcoming movies at some level of progress or another (either filming, pre-production, post-production, etc...etc...)

and, yes, Romano died....helicopter crash landed....right on him (happens everyday, doesn't it?)

ER was like a soap oprea and that is too bad.

hasn't ER ALWAYS been like a soap opera? the FIRST thing to happen was Carol Hathway's attempted suicide.....

Yes, but in recent years the show has centered more and more on the soap opera angle and less on the cases and patients. It used to be a can't miss show for me, but now it's in the "I'll watch because there's nothing else on" category.

I have never watched more than 5 minutes of the current version of ER.

However, I would LOVE to get the previous one on DVD. The one starring Eliott Gould. (a young George Clooney was in that one too) It aired 1984-85.

Shows that only last a half of a season....I wouldn't count on that being out on DVD anytime soon.....but, who knows? I certainly don't remember that one at all....

about an even earlier "ER"? "EMERGENCY!"....

Starring a very young Randolph Mantooth and Kevin Tighe. And a very attractive Julie London.

I'm glad they replaced him with Romano. Morganstern was nice...too nice. Like I said, Romano may have been rude, but half the time I found myself chuckling, anyway. I loved the episode where he was helping interview candidates for medical school. At the beginning of the show he was grousing about how boring it was going to be, and somebody asked him why. "Because every single person is going to say the reason they want to become a doctor is because they've always wanted to help people. Nonsense. They want it for the money." Then they show this montage of interviews and all the candidates say...I want to be a doctor because I've always wanted to help people.

And when the bus rolled over and the child climbed back in to valiantly save his parent, or Romano got his arm sawed off by yet another helicopter...

So Romano died, too, eh? Geesh, this show has the body count of "Battlestar Galactica."

I loved Emergency, but I could not classify it as an earlier ER because of the name and it was set in a LA firehouse instead of a Chicago emergency room.

When the current show first aired I thought they were bringing back the Gould comedy......

I remember that show! I grew up watching it. I always thought some of the firemen were cute.

Did anyone else read about Mark (Anthony Edwards) coming back for the final season, in new flashbacks (if that makes any sense) with Angela Bassett's character?

She hasn't been on before; that's what is making this confusing. From what I gather, in the story she has worked with Dr. Greene before.

well, now that I am seeing the commercials for the "Final Season"...she is advertised as now coming to the show...

perhaps she did work with Greene BEFORE the timeframe of the show.....or, maybe in med school, or residency or something along the way like that.....

we'll see...

That is what I am guessing, so it sounds as if we'll see some "flashbacks" and that is how ANthony Edwards will be able to be on the show.

I can't decide which death was sadder, Greg's or Anthony Edward's character (name escapes me right now). But, the saddest part is just watching them wheel him to the elevator & everything just stands still. Imagine what that must really be like when you work at a hospital & have to do the same thing for someone you know. Must be tough. k

You had me in a PANIC...

You had me thinking that CSI's season premiere was last night, as well....WHEW! (which, would have been possible for us to miss, since we are SO "tuned in" to ER, we would have overlooked it)

guess they showed last season's "finale".....huh?

It's really strange. I mean that you're watching and going okay pretty evident he's going to die and I was thinking okay, I'm cool. But once his brother started getting upset by how withdrawn everyone started being and the procession to the elevator, I cried. I'm glad they showed Frank being upset by it. He's such a stoic person and now to see him deeply moved by his death was wonderful writing. They really tugged at my heartstrings last night!

That is how I felt too!! At first I even said to my 18yo son that watches with me, "ya know I am sad that he is dying, but not as sad as when Dr. Greene died." Then WHAM-OH! tears tears started flowing.
