Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Higher Ground"(Stevie Wonder), and "Love Rollercoaster"(Ohio Players), are both good re-makes And since I mentioned Stevie Wonder, Stevie Ray Vaughn does a good remake of "Superstition"

ORIGINAL: its_GO_time I would like to hear someone do a country version of Led Zepplin's Going to California, I can actually play the version out in my head, complete with Johnny Cash style muted strings. I heard Dolly Parton do a version of Led Zepplin's Stairway To Heaven, which wasn't that great.

ORIGINAL: Nakedprey Some good: The Ocean Blue - Renaissance Man (77s cover) I've know about that version for awhile, but I havn't been able to get the album it's on yet.If I remember right, it's on a compilation album called Preliminary Hearing.Still curious as to how they did the song. Anyway, to my list... Some of the worst remakes: Marriage Is Madness - Free (cover of Stryper) Klank - The Way (cover of Stryper) Death Of Samantha - Red Kross (cover of Shonen Knife) Some of the best remakes: Siouxsie And The Banshees - Dear Prudence (cover of Beatles) Sixpence None The Richer - Carry You (cover of Leslie Philips) Sixpence None The Richer - Road To Zion (cover of Petra) Morella's Forest - Voices Carry (cover of Til Tuesday) Believer - Like A Song (cover of U2) Emmylou Harris - Wrecking Ball (cover of Neal Young) Waterdeep - Whenever God Shines His Light (cover of Van Morrison) Echoing Green - You Won't Be Lonely (cover of Stryper) Another great cover is U2's version of ELP's Father Christmas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfIWCiX21qg

Link appears to be valid. Also, Mike Roe approved it being there so you wouldn't be doing anything illegal by DLing it. Sound quality isn't the best, but unless you are willing to fork over big bucks for the CD single it originally appeared on, this is probably the best way to get it.

I don't know if it had already been mentioned, but one of my favorite remakes, is the Talking Heads' "Take Me to the River" originally done by Al Green. The Heads' have almost made it original to them, in most people's eyes(they're one of my fav groups of the 80's, too)

Good remake: Richard Thompson's version of "Oops, I did it again". Of course almost anybody could improve on the Brittany Spears version

I did like The Talking Heads remake as well. Souxie and the Banshies did a great cover too! I will have to hear that Six Pence None The Richer of Carry You sometime.

Unfortunately when I tried to download the track, I got the message "The File associated with this link has expired".But thanks for trying. Someone mentioned that the track is on the Ocean Blue Yahoo group, so maybe I can hear it through that.

The entire Briefcase full of Blues album, by the Blues Brothers, (John Belushi, and Dan Ackroyd), is filled with great covers. 'B Movie Boxcar Blues'(Delbert McClinton) gives me goose bumps everytime I hear it.

Red Red Wine by UB40 They do a good cover of Elvis' Can't Help Falling in Love, too. And Johnny Cash could have sung the phone book, and it would still be great.

Oh wow, I'll start with the worst covers ever: Knockin' on Heaven's Door - Guns 'n Roses sung by 5 tortured alley cats on vocals. I never figured out how they got those cats to almost sing the melody. People Get Ready - Margaret Becker. Now, I love her stuff especially that album it may be my all time favourite christian album but man, that song had to go. Hey Joe - Led Zeppelin. This may be a bootleg but I heard it first on a radio station. Picture Jimi Hendrix playing Hey Joe to Robert Plant singing Black Dog. Fuzzbox - Spirit in the Sky (This was just wrong) Fortunate Son - U2 (Why? Just why?) The best ever: Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix (Covered many times, but Jimi made it big) Walk This Way - Run DMC. It's hard to think of how low rap has gotten when compared to Raising Hell. (Aerosmith helped back them up) Kentucky Woman - Deep Purple (Neil Diamond cover, I don't know why I always liked it so much) I Thank You - ZZ Top (Sam and Dave and both versions are just awesome) Am I Evil - Metallica (Diamondhead, never heard it but that's almost my all time favourite Metallica song) Peace Train - 10,000 Maniacs. (Better than the original) Crazy Mary - Pearljam (This is Pearljam's like All Along the Watchtower is Jimi's) Superstar - Sonic Youth (The only memorable song on the Carpenter's tribute) Because the Night - 10,000 Maniacs (Their biggest hit, sadly after Natalie left) Sympathy For the Devil - Natalie Merchant (ROIO, but good enough to mention anyway)
