Last thread is 100 pages, and since it's almost a new year, it's double fitting.

Here is the thread to chat all things baby. (Newborn - preschool age)

The age range that Fritz set on this chat originally when I petitioned him for it, was anywhere from newborn through potty training (whatever age that is for your child). So I really don't think it needs to be discussed to find if it is ok...that's what he set it as.

Right. It's through potty-training. Which for Levi may be 10. Oh, I hope not.

I love a nice new thread!

Sounds good, Karen. You could also drive to the nearest mall and do laps, if Hannah gets restless in the car.

Speaking of low iron, the tests Beth had done today showed that her iron is even lower than it was before, which means that my efforts to increase her iron through her diet have failed. As soon as I get to Publix I'm getting the iron supplements, as well as continuing to try and offer iron-rich foods.

Man, I'm so tired. Beth's temp has gone down, but she's super cranky. Won't even nurse for comfort now. We may go for a drive if nothing else.

okay, we'll leave it as is then. I didn't know Fritz had set an age.

Poor Beth, and poor Ruth (((hugs)))

Fritz's original setting for this thread were:
*ages newborn through potty training
*no school related things (those go in the PPS threads, even if it's pre-school)
*anything that needs a dads advice goes in parenting
*general chat...anything that needs it's own thread because of going on and on needs to be put in parenting
*anything that could cause debate needs it's own debate or support thread in parenting

Ruth, I feel for you. It is not fun when the babies are all sick or sick one after the other. I started coming down with whatever crud the kids have had. I very quickly upped my fruit and veggies and started on Claritin D for the drainage. I think I am holding it at bay. I fall asleep every afternoon with Logan and pass out at night but I am holding on for now.

I do not envy Fritz's job. Trying to keep all of these things straight must give him a headache. Especially the ones that may put him in the path of hormonal women.

Erin, if he only chugs the milk periodically I'd agree that he might be growing and need it. Josh drinks about 8 oz a day but that's only because he prefers water, I'd like him to drink closer to 16. He might have been thirsty as well. What does he get between meals for drinks? We keep a cup of water out for Josh pretty much from when he gets up to when he goes to bed. And we leave it where he can access it at will. He sips on it throughout the day and it doesn't seem to keep him from eating (and we've been doing it since he was younger than Isaac).

FWIW, our ped recommends between 16-24 oz of milk a day for toddlers and preschoolers, providing that it is not keeping them from eating real food. Found out when Josh was drinking 40 oz! And before all you fine ladies have a heart attack - he was just over a year, ate 3 meals plus 2 snacks a day, we had just switched him from formula (yes he drank that much formula at a year) and he was still using bottles. I had planned to cut him back once he was on cow's milk and decided to ask the ped for a reasonable amount. So I just cut out 3 bottles and started offering him water instead. He's been happy with straight water ever since.

roflol...and thats why he has Kath!!!

Karen...I like the idea of the mall walking...then you wouldn't have to worry about the weather and you could let him sleep and let her walk. (Our mall has a play area too). Is there a mall around you that you could do that in?

Milk... the ped this morning just concurred with Brandy's and said basically "empty calories, to much sugar, not the best source of absorbable vitamins". He said if desired then we can give her some, but he prefers that it be limited to 16oz a day. There are much, much better sources of healthy fats out there.

Gabby rarely gets milk, but she does get yogurt and cheese. No concern about it in this house. Cow's milk is over rated, IMO.

Ruth, I'm glad she's ok. Can you sneak in a short quiet time at some point today for a little rest?

He has access to water and one sippy of juice a day, at all times. This is the first time he has ever chugged it so much. Just the past two or three days, usually he only gets about 16 oz, maybe 24, a day.

We have no issues with cows milk. hubby and I both are big milk drinkers. I'm personally of the opinion that it is one of the resources that God made available for us, but I dont want to get into a milk is good/bad discussion.

Ruth and Sarah, the mall isn't too far away. She would like to get out and walk. We have a small play area as well. That would be a good alternative.

Erin, it sounds like he may just have been especially thirsty that day. If it were me, I probably wouldn't worry about it. Especially if it is not interfering with his diet.

YUMMO!!!!! I bet he will really like that milk!!! If he is trying to chunk up on calories that stuff will be good and fattening for him...much better then the stuff from the store. He already gets the good fresh eggs (from some of the best looking chickens I have ever seen...lol)...fresh milk added to his diet will be great!! (Hannah still says she wants chickens too now...she says we can put them in the empty pool....lol)

Oh, Isaac has decided he doesnt like eggs...he feeds them to the dog. Speaking of feeding the animals...Isaac was licking off the fudge making spoon and he went to the cat, grabbed him by the back of the neck, and rammed the spoon in his mouth. He loves to share....

roflol.
Eggs- have you tried flavoring them? making a different kind (boiled, fried, poached)?

He likes them okay when I make a "toad in the hole" and if they have enough cheese on them. He likes egg salad too, but if I just scramble them..no way, the go straight to the floor and I get the "something else NOW, mom" look.

I'm honestly wondering if Beth was traumatized at the doctor's. They were very nice and only did what they thought best (and that I agreed to), but she was really upset by the cathader (sp?) and the blood draw. I think we'll go out soon. She took a quick nap, then only woke up more upset.

I told Nathan that he has been a really good boy since Beth got sick, and he said "I'm so proud of me!" Then he asked me "Can you take care of me?" He wanted some cuddle time, too.

OK, Nathan is getting really antsy, and he's saying "Keep moving" which means he'd like to get out of the house. A drive would do us good.

Thanks for starting a new thread, Sandy! You need a few smilies for your efforts: <--hey, look! Even the French came to thank you!

Also, thanks for the replies about how co-sleeping "works" for some of you. It was interesting to read how it fleshes out, so thanks.

Also, ERIN, this cracked me up: "so he goes to bed when I do (Klay is a night owl) and I put pillows in Klays "spot". When Klay comes to bed he sleeps in between us."

My immediate mental picture was of Klay coming to bed with you and Isaac already in there, and KLAY nuzzling in there in between you and Isaac......budger!!

Anyhow, it cracked me up -- tall, skinny Klay coming in there and taking the middle. I know you meant Isaac but mentally it was much funnier picturing it being Klay.

Ruth, I hope that Beth is on the mend SOOOOON!

Ruth,

Catheters can leave a burning sensation, and can also themselves be a source of urine infections.

Go for a drive Ruth, I'm sure it will help all of you.

Is there anywhere to stop for a treat? Small fries or something to share?

I totally think kids can be traumatized by Dr's. Isabel will get antsy when we go for ME but does ok as long as no one gets near her or really talks to her.

I would imagine that to Beth's brain she went from happy normal to being held and prodded not in a good way. Loss of control much? But give her time and she should settle down. I wonder if her urethra is irritated from the cath ?

Okay, Jeanie, I got my pronouns outta whack, but that is funny. My fly by at work posting sometimes is lacking in clarity!

Erin -- it was just my own mixing up of things. I just thought "only I would picture the wrong one in the middle" -- LOL. Still, it IS a funny picture of a dad pushing junior out of the way so he can sleep by "mommy".
