We ended up deciding on the True Fit Premier for Mia, it's not the pretty girly cover that I wanted but I suppose I'll survive Maybe I'll trade someone for a girly cover later on...

I'm partial to that red! So you decided on a convertible seat, huh.

Oh, we knew we were going to skip the infant carrier this time around. We found it to be a waste of money with Gabby since she outgrew it pretty quick. We could have gone with one of the newer Graco infant seats with the higher weight limit but since I rarely removed the seat from the car it seemed kind of pointless.

Makes sense to me. I would have gone the same route if we hadn't saved Jadon's.

Got the first new carseat in the mail today. I can't believe we're going to have another itty bitty to put in there soon It's a pink Sunshine Kids Radian XT, it will be perfect for either kiddo which is nice.

Hey girls! New here. :-) Just wondering what kind of baby carriers you are getting or have gotten. I'm also curious about bedding options for us. A crib is out of the question (unless we can borrow one from a friend), and since we don't have an actual bed (just a matress on the floor) would it be strange to keep baby on the "floor" with us? Say, something like a moses basket without the stand?

I think a moses basket would be perfect! As long as it isn't drafty or cold on the floor, I don't see an issue with it.

As for carriers, we have a moby that I love and some other kind of front carrier that is more "manly" but that my husband has not even used yet. There is actually an entire thread somewhere around here for babywearing. That thread will give you more info on wraps and carriers than you ever wanted to know...LOL!

It would be very convenient to have the baby sleeping at the same level you are. Sleeping on a matress on the floor isn't strange, and having the baby there isn't strange either. Elevated beds are not a moral issue but a comfort/convenience one.

I totally agree. Many times (for short or longer periods of time) throughout the years we have had our mattresses on the floor...sometimes even with just the mattress and no box springs. Just think, in some cultures that's all they do ALL the time...purposely!!! LOL. Just think of yourself as being "modern"...lol

I would also do the Moses basket thing if our mattress were lower. Do keep in mind, though, that the baby will outgrow a moses basket before they are ready for a bed (not sure how far along; maybe someone who has used a moses basket can offer ideas on that?). At that point you might just graduate them to a crib mattress on the floor, or even a twin mattress (if you have the room--save yourself one purchase). Then the only concern would be making sure baby doesn't roll off.

This is my first baby, so I don't have any carriers yet. Specialty shops will often lend them out for a week or so until you can figure out whether baby likes them (sadly, it's not always about our own preferences!). I'm going to see if I can borrow one from a friend for when the baby comes. I'd like either a Moby wrap or a Blue Celery (kinda like a wrap/double sling hybrid), or a Mei Tai.

She is in Japan, lol

I think a moses basket would be fine. What do they do in the culture there? Cosleep?

Hehe! I think co-sleeping is most popular here, but there is also a HUGE stock of Moses baskets at the baby store too. About how long would the sleep in the basket? We are planning to return home around the time baby would be 13-14 months old. My biggest concern about it is that the floor is kind of drafty considering we only have a wall heater, but we could always buy a heated rug - or would that be a safety issue?

My last one could fit comfortably in the moses basket for maybe 2-3 months. But then he was born huge, and kept growing proportionately.

If you can keep a hat and a light blanket on the kid, that should take care of the drafts, right?

I never like the idea of laying any child on any heated surface or laying one on them. They are poor regulators at the beginning and later on could get over warmed and not realize it.

A sleep sack or long sleeved and footed outfit with a hat would/should be enough. Even more of a reason to have babe in bed with you directly holding/touching him.

Moses baskets are usually 4-6 months for standard sized kids, not Cappy's moose children

Do you know, one of my boys has a shirt with a big old moose on it?

Most of my kids have stayed on the smaller side and could have done a Moses basket for about 9-12 months.

As for the heat issue- can you put in a ceiling fan? That would circulate the warm air down into the room better.

Hey girls! I was thinking about this thread today when I got our Aden and anais swaddling blankets. I thought I'd jump in here to HIGHLY recommend them if you want to swaddle. They are pricey at their website, but you can find them cheaper. (we did at diapers.com). Amazon or ebay may have them cheaper too. They are Amazing!!!!

Yup, and if your so inclined "diaper gauze" and "bubble gauze" are pretty much the same fabric, and at $4 or less per yard they make them even more affordable :)

Woo Hoo! I'm so excited to be here!

We went to Babies R Us and a local place called Baby Emporium. It's early yet but we wanted to see what's out there. Shees. Some of strollers out there are sooo fancy. Some look like exercise machines. So far, I like the Combi travel system. It's pretty light and compact but the only downside is that the storage basket on the bottom is really small. No cup holder either. Maybe Chicco?

And I love Annabelle's mini crib. The size is perfect for our tiny apartment and it does convert into a twin bed. So it's not just a crib by itself.

We have the Chicco stroller/carseat combo. I loved the carseat but used the stroller a handful of times. Just too big.

We have a combi stroller now, nice a light, folds up super small but draw back is no cupholder. Just makes us drink lots of water in sealed bottles

If you are talking about a cup holder for baby's cup, then they sell THIS at Wal-Mart and Target to attach to the front of a stroller so baby has a place for their cup. You can also attach toys to it if your stroller doesn't have anything to do that to.
If what you mean is a cup holder for mom/dad, then Jeep has THIS ONE that you can buy and attach to any stroller.

I'm not sure I see what the draw is for a cupholder, but then I don't drink coffee. Is that its primary use? All the strollers I've seen with cupholders wouldn't fit my 1L water bottle. Nor do I expect them to; I'm used to clipping it only my purse, backpack, wherever.

We're thinking of getting the Graco Snugrider frame; Baby Trend and Kolcraft make universal ones too, which we'd consider if we didn't have the Graco car seat. That'll give us some time to figure out if a) baby likes a stroller or throws a hissy fit whenever we put them in one, b) we really need a big monster stroller, and c) if so, how those big monster strollers work for baby.

I'm thinking of skipping the travel system altogether and getting either a lightweight umbrella stroller, or something like a Bob. If only they made the lightweight strollers with big wheels; the smaller wheels won't handle our unplowed street once winter hits.

Thanks for the link PL2. I was referring to a cup holder for mom. I like it. It's sporty looking.

My concern about Combi is more about the tiny basket. But I just love the stroller. They have two sizes and even the larger one is compact and light. Perhaps I don't need to use a large bag though. We'll see.
