I am so enjoying running and cycling outside. YAY me! But I'm looking towards fall and winter when doing things outside gets painful. I can stand the cold everywhere else but my breath. It's like it's shredding my lungs and I get gunked up in there. What do you use to help with this? I've seen a lot of face covers and they say you can breathe really well with them, but I'm wondering if it helps with the cold aspect?

I wondered where you lived that you could cycle in January! Now I know. Grrr, envious.

Ds1 and I ride outside as long as we can find pavement and it's in the double digits. I also run outside in all weather--my favorite is the "more miles than degrees" club. I have tried fleece face masks but I never seem to be able to get enough air. I've also tried lycra, but those tend to frost over. But, then again, it was stupid cold. I got one from Seira Trading Post that works pretty well, although usually I end up pulling it off my face because I over-heat. For under a helmet (you wear one, RIGHT???), you will need something fairly thin. I custom ordered one from Foxwear. It's the thinnest fleece hat, then slightly heavier for the ear band. It was cheap--only $10.

Oh, everytime I'm out I wear one! I'm heading to Dicks tomorrow, to finally get shoes, I'll check out what they got there. I forgot about Sierra Trading, I'll check that out if I don't find anything else.

I wear a mask in the winter that only covers the lower half of my face and attaches at the lower portion of my head so it doesn't get in the way of my helmet. You might just have to try several different kinds before you find one you like.

I draw at the line at below 30 degrees and snow/ice. Sorry can't help you there. Under Armour is awesome. Pricy, yes, but worth the money.

30* is still quite balmy! Turtle neck, heavy fleece, wind breaker, hat and gloves and I'm good to go! Yes, UnderArmor is the best! I only buy it at the thrift store, never paying more than $5.
